2020 Migration Trends - From U-Haul
U-Haul records more than 2 million one-way truck customer transactions every year and they track the number of trucks entering states vs. leaving those states to arrive at the states with the biggest net-gains & net-losses. For the first time, Tennessee ranked as the #1 U-Haul growth state in 2020.
Do-it-yourself movers made Texas & Florida their top destinations from 2016 through 2019. Texas came in second in 2020, followed by Florida in third place. Ohio, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina & Georgia round out the top 10 states for 2020 growth.
California ranked last by a wide margin, supplanting Illinois as the state with the greatest net loss of U-Haul trucks. California has ranked 48th or lower since 2016.
