Is Your Property Ready Before Fire Season Gets Serious?
What is Slash?
Slash is debris from nature, such as tree limbs, prunings, and pine cones. If not removed, slash can add to potential fire hazards on your property. The importance of mitigating and preparing your property for wildfire cannot be overstated - and again this year, Jefferson County is your partner in this effort.

2026 SLASH Season is Now Underway
View the map below or click here for the exact schedule and times. Please arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to closing, as the unloading process takes about 30 minutes.
All material brought to the slash sites must be unloaded by hand. We are currently exploring more efficient unloading options for the Tincup Slash yard.
If you plan to bring both woody materials and detached pine needles, please separate them, as they are sorted in different areas of the slash yard. Thank you!

Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB)
MPB infested logs will be accepted only at the Tincup Ridge SLASH Yard. Please bring infested materials outside of flight season (before June 15 and after September 30).
Prohibited Materials
Certain materials are not accepted at any SLASH site due to the risk of damaging heavy equipment, including:
- Construction materials and lumber (may contain hidden metal)
- Tree stumps (often embedded with rocks)
- Detached leaves (can carry rocks or metal debris)
Please do not use heavy machinery to load material into vehicles or trailers, as this can introduce excess dirt and rocks into the load. Staff reserves the right to reject any load that does not meet program requirements.
The SLASH program accepts material from both residents and non-residents.
Any size truck or trailer is welcome at Jefferson County Slash Collection sites. Dump fees are based on six cubic yards (162 cubic feet) of material: six yards is one load. The cost to drop off a single load is $24. Credit cards only. This is equivalent to:
- Truck bed full to truck cab height
- Trailer up to eight feet long by five feet wide by four feet high
- Loads outside these parameters will be charged accordingly

Calculate Cost
Here is an example how to figure your cost:
- A 16-foot long trailer that is five feet wide and stacked four feet tall with tree branches
- 16 feet by 5 feet by 4 feet equals 320 cubic feet 320 cubic feet divided by 162 cubic feet (six yards) = 1.98 "loads"
- Each load is $24
- So, rounded off, this example trailer will cost $48 to drop at a Jeffco Slash Collection site
The fees help offset the cost of equipment processing, staffing, and maintaining a sustainable program for future years.
Importance of Fire Mitigation
Removing slash and creating a defensible space around your home, is the first line of defense against wildfires. You can create zones around your home, removing any fire fuels, such as tree debris. Having a properly mitigated property doesn’t mean that wildfire will pass you by, but it gives the fire department a better opportunity to save your home when it does come. Great tips on how to protect your home and property can be found on the Jeffco Sheriff’s hazard mitigation page and at FireWise website. Jeffco's CSU Extension also has a factsheet that can help homeowners plant low-flammability gardens. TerraSource, the a large county database, also covers numerous forest health and fire mitigation topics.
Recycling Services
Next to the Tincup Slash Yard is the Rooney Road Recycling Center, which specializes in household hazardous waste recycling. For information on their services and other recycling options, please visit their website.
